Friends, business colleagues, and community builders can meet up next week for a mid-winter chance to network.
Olds Chamber of Commerce President Doug Rieberger highlights the fact that they will be gathering at Aurora Golf-Olds on Tuesday, February 3rd from 5:30pm until 7:30. He says “it is our annual kind of kick off for the year – mix and mingle. Everybody is invited, Chamber members and anybody that is interested in some more information about the Chamber.” The Olds Chamber’s after hours meet and greet on February 3rd is free to attend, but they ask that you still go to the website OldsAlberta.com to register.
Rieberger was asked to pass along his outlook for 2026. He says “economically I think it is still going to be a little bit tough but with the recent predictions and increase in our Canadian dollar and that, that is going to make it a little bit cheaper for some of our businesses and that when it comes to goods that are being imported. As well as overall, I think some of these projects like we are talking with the data centre, we’ve got some of the housing projects and that going in town. So overall we’re still continuing to be a busy town, economically.”
This week’s big announcement for the Town was a $10 billion private-sector investment by Synapse Data Center Inc. to construct a proposed data centre in north east Olds along Highways 27 and 2-A. It would be the largest of its kind in Canada. Rieberger says “this is really good news for all of our businesses in the local area. As they are in the building phase and that, there is a lot of potential for our local contractors and that to be working with them. As well as, it is going to bring a lot of people into town once the facility gets up and running and some good high tech jobs will be started.”
Tickets are also now available for the Chamber’s annual general meeting. The Olds and District Chamber of Commerce will once again utilize the services of the fine folks at the Olds Royal Canadian Legion #105 for the AGM on March 11th from 11:30am until 1pm. Tickets and more details are available online.
