Avoid inviting criminals to your doorstep this Christmas by following these RCMP tips

To prevent crooks from playing the role of the Grinch this holiday season, Red Deer RCMP are passing along tips to prevent porch package thefts.

For those who are ordering items online, Mounties say to – whenever possible – opt for a signature required delivery or provide instructions for the delivery person to leave your items out of sight.

According to police, it is also important to track your shipments to know when to expect your items – that way you or a trusted neighbour can collect the items before a criminal does.

If you are going to be travelling this Christmas, ask a neighbour to shovel your driveway and pathways, plus ensure there is no mail left on your doorstep or in your mailbox in order to give the impression that someone is present in the home.

Red Deer RCMP also encourage anyone who sees suspicious activity at mailboxes to report it immediately to your local police.
