The Mountain View Colts wrapped up the 2025 portion of their Heritage Junior Hockey League season on Saturday night, hitting the road to take on the Red Deer Vipers.
It marked the fifth and final regular-season meeting between the Northern Division rivals, with the Colts having a chance to pull even with Red Deer for second place in the standings.
The Vipers opened the scoring in the first period when Carter Krause tipped a shot past Kaden Toussaint to give the home side an early lead. Mountain View responded on the power play, as Aiden Saunders blasted home a one-timer to tie the game heading into the first intermission.
The second period was scoreless despite plenty of action. The Colts were unable to capitalize on a frantic 5-on-3 power play, while Red Deer netminder Cole McLean, making a surprise start, turned aside several quality chances to keep the game tied.
McLean’s strong play set the stage in the third, as Kris Karol scored the go-ahead goal just over 90 seconds into the frame. Krause followed with his second of the night to seal a 3–1 Vipers victory.
Toussaint finished with 38 saves in just his third loss of the season, while McLean stopped 31 shots for Red Deer.
With the loss, Mountain View now trails the Vipers by four points for second place in the Northern Division. The Colts are idle until January 2, when they return home to host the Coaldale Copperheads at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
