Dan Daley is the Mayor-elect in the Town of Olds following Monday’s municipal election.
After one term as a councillor, he was the winner of the two candidate race for Olds Mayor and will be in for a second term at the council table. Daley finished with 1,266 votes and former Mayor Michael Muzychka wound up with 761.
Daley was surprised and quite humbled to be elected. He takes it quite seriously that the citizens of Olds have put their faith in him to lead council for the next four years. Daley says “we are going to try to communicate better. We are going to try to hit the target a little bit more and just continue on with fiscal restraint and making sure we are the place that people want to live.”
Daley was asked what he was pleased about that council was able to accomplish during the term from 2021-2025. He pointed to relationship building with our neighbours and partners. Daley also says “taking the debt load from 95 per cent down to 65 per cent and working our way through that. That is just money saved that we could put money into other projects and critical need things like underground infrastructure, roads, sidewalks. Those types of things going into the future. So that was part and parcel why I ran for Mayor to continue on with those good things the past council has put into place and I’m looking forward to finishing those projects up and moving on and making Olds a stronger place to live again.”
Daley has lived in Olds for over 30 years and even before joining council he had volunteered on a number of boards and committees.
The 2025 Municipal General Election results will become official on Friday, October 24th at noon and Daley says the new elected officials for the Town of Olds will be sworn in on Monday, October 27th.
