Mountain View County councillors re-elect Division 5 representative as Reeve

Angela Aalbers is back in for a fourth term on council and she will also be continuing on for another year as Reeve of Mountain View County.

Her fellow councillors elected the Division 5 – Rural Sundre/Bearberry representative to serve as Reeve for a fifth consecutive year when the County’s organization meeting was held on Wednesday. Aalbers says “it is such an honour and such a privilege. These are absolutely amazing individuals who make up a fantastic team and to be able to lead that team is just wonderful.”

With six of the seven incumbents re-elected, Aalbers reflects on the make up of the current council. She says “well first of all, just a huge shout out to Allan Miller he served four years and really represented his community (Division 3 – Rural Didsbury) well and worked great on the team. We look extremely forward to working with Angela Look and any of the new ideas that she will bring. A new set of eyes means new opportunities for council to consider. Stability on council is a big thing because I think it does reflect that the community is somewhat or hopefully very satisfied with what they are receiving, but we all understand that there is always areas for improvement and we look forward to moving in that direction in the next four years.”

Aalbers notes that they are about to start the budget deliberations and the previous council did set up a draft budget for the new council to review. She say “so it will be looking at the budget intensely and looking at the service levels and where we can make improvements and, obviously, always looking for efficiencies. Then probably the second priority for us will be to look at our inter-municipal collaboration committees with our urbans. We did have some changeover in some of our Towns quite significantly on council so we look forward to getting to know those new councils and starting to work collaboratively with them.”

Aalbers – who is continuing on as Mountain View County’s first female Reeve – was re-elected as the Division 5 representative on council with 74 per cent of the votes in this fall’s municipal election. Her fellow councillors have elected her as Reeve in each year since 2021.
