Unofficial Town of Olds municipal election results: Former councillor becomes new Mayor

With Judy Dahl not running for re-election, the Mayor’s race for this fall was between Dan Daley and Michael Muzychka.

After one term as a councillor, Daley (1,266) is unofficially the new Olds Mayor after receiving 505 more votes than Muzychka (761). Muzychka had previously been the Town’s Mayor for one-term (2017-2021).

There were a total of 15 candidates attempting to land one of six council seats in the Town of Olds. The six that have unofficially been elected are two incumbents – Darren Wilson (1,076) and Wanda Blatz (1,074) – along with Ben Chrusch (KROOSH) (1,016), Chad Taylor (1,003), Mary Anne Overwater (815), and Curtis Cook (778).

Others not quite getting into the top six included incumbent James Cummings (766), plus Patrick Dardis (653), Debbie Bennett (632), Janey Olson (507), Darcy Dobush (425), Chris Parkerhouse (386), Evelyn Smith (319), Michael Clark (298), and Pat Bekker (220).

Voter turnout was 28 per cent, according to Legislative Clerk and Returning Officer for the Town of Olds Marcie McKinnon. 2,032 total ballots cast out of about 7,174 eligible voters.

The results will become official on Friday, October 24th at noon.
