With the 2025–26 school year approaching, Alberta’s government is investing heavily in new classroom space to meet rising enrolment across the province.
$50 million is being invested by the Government of Alberta this fall to install 62 modular classrooms. This builds on earlier budget commitments bringing the total to 109 modulars, which will create space for over 2,700 students and relocate more than 500.
Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides says in a news release on Wednesday that the province is focused on fast, practical solutions adding in a news release that “This additional funding for modular classrooms will help get much-needed spaces to some of our busiest schools, while government work as quickly as possible to open the doors to more than 130 school projects underway in the province.”
The province is also investing $1 million to help four new charter schools finalize their plans.
When complete, these schools will add more than 2,400 student spaces in communities across Alberta.
Another $610,000 is going to early planning work for 13 potential future school projects.
This is all a part of Alberta’s Schools Now program, a long-term investment of $8.6 billion to build or modernize more than 100 schools over seven years and create more than 200,000 student spaces across the province.
