Alberta boasts record investment in the arts

Alberta’s government is making a record investment in the arts, with total funding reaching $36.1 million this year.

According to a news release from the province, this includes a $4.5 million increase for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts — part of a multi-year commitment that will raise annual arts funding to more than $43 million by 2027.

The province highlights the arts as a key contributor to quality of life, positive health and well-being, and economic growth, with arts industries contributing over $1.3 billion to Alberta’s GDP and supporting more than 18,000 jobs.

Funding is delivered through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts in three primary ways: operational grants for arts organizations, project grants for nonprofits and schools, and direct project support for individual artists.

Since April 2025, the Foundation has approved $19.1 million in grants to 223 organizations and 192 individual artists.

The province says this funding strengthens communities, expands access to the arts, and preserves Alberta’s unique culture and heritage.
