Speeding, impaired driving high on list of holiday tickets handed out by Alberta RCMP

Alberta RCMP issued nearly 1,000 tickets were between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Enhanced traffic safety enforcement across the province saw officers tag over 240 drivers for speeding, more than 30 for distracted driving, and almost two dozen for seatbelt violations.

Sergeant Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic points out that they are never happy to report fatal motor vehicle collisions and there were six of them during that time period resulting in seven deaths.

Mounties say just shy of 100 non-fatal injury collisions were also reported during the holiday week and over 120 drivers were taken off the roads for being impaired due to drugs and/or alcohol.
