Danielle Smith appearing in Olds for town hall, UCP candidate’s by-election campaign launch

Alberta’s Premier is coming to the Town of Olds tomorrow.

Danielle Smith will be at Holy Trinity Catholic School for the campaign launch of the United Conservative Party candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills constituency.

Nathan Cooper, the current MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills, will be resigning at the end of this month and he will start his new job as Alberta’s senior representative to the United States in June.

Cooper points out that the campaign launch on Saturday, May 24th for this riding’s UCP candidate in the by-election – Tara Sawyer – will also include a chance for the public to chat with the Premier.  He says “they are going to have a campaign launch as well as a town hall where folks from Olds and area can ask the Premier all of their burning questions.”

Cooper, meanwhile, will be heading to Washington, D.C. next Thursday as he begins his new job. He says “I have a number of important meetings, the week following. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday energy forums, meetings with senior officials at the White House, and others. A really, really important time and looking forward to serving Albertans in this new and important way.”

The start of this month marked a full decade that Cooper has served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for this riding. He says “I would like to say thank you so much to all of the constituents of Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills. It has been a true honour of a lifetime to be able to represent you. I look forward to continuing to serve Albertans in this new capacity.”

Cooper also had to resign as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta to take his new job. MLAs elected Ric McIver to replace him during a vote in the legislature on May 13th. McIver – the MLA for Calgary-Hays – becomes the 15th Speaker in the province’s history.
