AJHL Expanding To Devon For 2024-2025 Season

The Alberta Junior Hockey League announced on Friday, April 26th that is has awarded an expansion franchise to the Norther Alberta Xtreme (NAX) Athletics Group and the community of Devon for the 2024-2025 season.

According to a press release, the AJHL franchise will play at a new rink currently under construction in the Dale Fisher Arena and it is slated to open in June of this year.

More information can be found online at NAXhockey.com about the Northern Alberta Xtreme Training Centre which houses six NAX Hockey Academy Teams, plus two elite hockey development programs.

The media release goes on to state that the NAX Athletics Group was previously part of the Whitecourt Wolverines ownership group and the AJHL is in the process of evaluating new ownership opportunities to continue a successful AJHL program in Whitecourt.

Meanwhile, the league notes that the AJHL Board of Governors also reviewed an expansion application from the community of Cold Lake as part of a Special Members Meeting on April 3rd. The league will apparently continue to work with the group on potential expansion to Cold Lake for the 2025-2026 AJHL campaign.

It is anticipated that a new league structure and schedule format will be revealed by the AJHL in May.
