A new rural sign campaign for Crime Stoppers Alberta was showcased today (January 20th).
The reveal took place at the Alberta RCMP headquarters in Edmonton and the campaign promises to encourage citizens to get involved in their community, raise awareness of Crime Stoppers, and bring smaller communities together.
According to a media release, “Crime Stoppers will work with the rural jurisdictions and Indigenous communities to place signs in high traffic locations informing the public of how to contact Crime Stoppers.”
It is also noted that the City of Wetaskiwin and Piikani First Nation are Crime Stopper communities, and talks are underway with other communities to join too.
The Crime Stoppers program gives individuals the opportunity to remain anonymous while reporting incidents that they witness to law enforcement. It pledges to keep personal information confidential. Mounties say that last year hundreds of charges were laid and millions of dollars worth of property was recovered thanks to anonymous tips about crimes Alberta RCMP would not otherwise have known about.
