As heard on 96.5 CKFM, Mitch Patrick (2006) had the skate away play as the Olds Grizzlys triumphed 4-3 in overtime versus the Bonnyville Pontiacs on October 11th.
The sophomore forward from Airdrie sent a Friday night crowd at the SportsComplex into a frenzy by giving the Black & Gold their second straight win in extra time. Olds earned a 5-4 shootout win over Camrose last Saturday.
The third game of a five game Alberta Junior Hockey League homestand for the Grizzlys saw forward Michael Albert (2006) from Clayton, California tie things up at 1-all early in the second period.
After Bonnyville went back out in front 2-1, forward Antonio Bevacqua (2006) from Langley, B.C. netted the equalizer on a Grizzlys power play at the 14:26 mark of period two.
The Grizzlys have potted PPGs in five straight games going a combined total of 8 for 24 in that time. They were 1 for 7 against Bonnyville on Friday.
Olds would grab the lead for the first time when forward Braeden Veldhuizen (2006) from Calgary tipped one into the Pontiacs net at 1:38 of the third.
Bonnyville would knot the game up at 3 less than a minute later. In the final moments of the third period, goaltender Aidan Fischer (2005) from North Vancouver, B.C. would make sure it got to O.T. by denying a great chance for the Pontiacs (2-4-1-1). The Yaks have lost 5 in a row (0-3-1-1)
Forward Jonathan Doucette (2006) from Boston, Massachusetts earned a pair of assists by setting up Albert on a 2 on 1, and feeding a breakaway pass to Patrick in overtime.
The Grizzlys (5-4-0-0) will face off with the Drayton Valley Thunder (4-4-0-1) on Saturday, October 12th at 7pm as their homestand continues and 96.5 CKFM will have live play-by-play coverage. The Thunder were blanked 3-zip on October 11th by the Wolverines (6-3-0-1) in Whitecourt.
