Second period surge powers defending AJHL champs to victory in Olds

As heard on 96.5 CKFM, the Olds Grizzlys jumped out to an early lead as their five game homestand began on Friday.

Captain Connor Seeley (2005) from West Kelowna, B.C. notched his first goal of the season and his first power play goal as a member of the Grizzlys at 15:40 of the opening period.

Unfortunately for the Black & Gold, the Calgary Canucks would rally to win 7-2 at the SportsComplex on October 4th.

Olds had gone up 2-1 in the second period when forward Yibin Yoo (2006) from Calgary lit the lamp for his first AJHL goal/point.

The defending Alberta Junior Hockey League champions responded to the challenge presented by a new look Grizzlys squad this season with a second period push which saw them outscore the home side 5-1.

The Canucks have now racked up five wins in a row to improve to 5-1-1-1. The Grizzlys two game winning streak is snapped and they drop to 3-4-0-0.

Up next is round one of this season’s Battle of the Bears when Olds hosts the Camrose Kodiaks at 7pm on Saturday, October 5th. 96.5 CKFM will have live play-by-play coverage starting with the pre-game show at 6:55.

Listen to CKFM’s conversation from before Friday’s game against the defending champs with Head Coach Brad Tobin.

CKFM also spoke with Head Coach Brad Moran ahead of Calgary’s visit to Olds.
