Mountain View Mavericks Take Home 2024 Tier 2 Founders Cup Title

The Mountain View Mavericks are returning from Hamilton with some hardware.

The Mavs were crowned Tier 2 champions at the Founders Cup, the national championship tournament in Junior B Tier 1 lacrosse.

The title cements the Mavericks as the 5th best team nation wide in 2024.

Mountain View went (1-2) in round robin play, missing out on championship playoff play.

The Mavericks would however take care of business in the Tier 2 playoff bracket, picking up a win against the Queen City Kings in the semi while going on to beat their Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League rivals from Manitoba in the Tier 2 final.

The Mavericks defeated the Winnipeg Blizz 11-5 to take home the honors.

The Tier 2 Founders Cup title adds to the Mavericks success this season, after their best ever regular season, first ever playoff berth and being crowned provincial champions.

Head Coach, Trey Christensen, says he’s proud of how his team competed all season long.

“It just shows the steps that we’ve taken. Really, it means everything. So moving forward, your goals always change. But that’s a major step in the right direction. We couldn’t be more proud.”

The Mavericks bench boss adds that the team gave it their all at nationals.

“We had the second youngest team in our province and hands down the youngest team at Founders. So, you just want to make sure that your guys are ready to face the challenge every game. Obviously we felt good about our hopes going into it. But more than anything, just like always you want your team to improve day in and day out and that’s exactly what they did. They gave everything they had.”

Christensen added that he does intend to return to the Mavericks in 2025, but will now enjoy some time off to rest and recuperate.

The 2024 Founders Cup Gold Medal Champions are the Elora Mohawks of Ontario, who defeated the hosts Hamilton Mac-Klean Bengals 10-1 in the final.
