Cowboy From Thorhild Wins Big At Sundre Pro Rodeo

A cowboy from Thorhild more than doubled his earnings for the 2024 Canadian Pro Rodeo Association season during last weekend’s tour stops in Alberta.
Ethan Mazurenko headed into the weekend in 13th place on the money list for bareback riders this year with just over $3,200 dollars in earnings, but he added almost $3,800 to his total thanks to his performances in Sundre and High River.
At the Sundre Pro Rodeo, Mazurenko posted a first place ride of 91 points on Calgary Stampede’s Yippee Kibitz. He says “Yep first time. Always wanted to draw it, finally got it. Man, that horse feels great. It was awesome. So much fun. Helped me along it the whole way. I knew it was going to buck hard and I knew I’d have a chance to win here. Not too much it is definitely all there. It’s a buckin’ bugger but, you know, helps you along it the whole way and is really good.”
In addition to his first place finish at the Sundre Pro Rodeo, Mazurenko also placed third at Guy Weadick Days in High River with an 83.5 point ride which should help him move into the top 10 on the CPRA money list for bareback riders this season. He says “I just leave it to the judges. I felt like I rode pretty good when I got off. I was pretty pumped up. My first Sundre win, my first 90. Yeah, it felt great. It’s been great start so far. I’m excited for the fourth run here coming up and all the July rodeos here coming up, Ponoka especially. “
The 21 year old will get his chance at the Ponoka Stampede this Saturday and he’ll be aboard Calgary Stampede’s Zastron Acres.
His goals for this season winning as much as he can to qualify for the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, hopefully have a shot at the rookie title in the world, and make the National Finals Rodeo.
