More than 1,100 speeders nabbed during long weekend by Alberta RCMP

25 injury collisions and six fatalities were reported by Alberta RCMP over the Victoria Day long weekend.

Mounties say enhanced traffic enforcement also targeted impaired drivers and unsafe driving practices from May 15-18.

Over 120 drivers in total were removed from Alberta’s roadways for being impaired due to drugs or alcohol. Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS) were highlighted by 9 IRS 24-hour suspensions, 37 IRS WARNS, 71 IRS FAILS, and 5 novice/commercial drivers were removed from the roads for IRS ZEROS.

More than 1,200 total tickets were handed out by RCMP in the province during the long weekend including 1,142 for speeding. There were 36 tickets issued for seatbelt infractions and 26 for distracted driving.
