Time was bookmarked at last week’s Mountain View County council meeting for discussion about the funding split between the Cremona Library and the Water Valley Library.
Division 2 Councillor Greg Harris notes that the Water Valley Library is currently only open 15 hours a week due to limited staffing – but it is the only one of the two facilities that has weekend hours.
He says council approved changing the library funding split from 70 per cent for Cremona and 30 per cent for Water Valley to what will now be a 50-50 split. Harris says “I’m pleased for the residents of the Water Valley area that their library is going to get fairer funding but I also want to reassure the residents of the Cremona rural area that their library is not going to be forgotten and for the time being we are going to make sure they get their programming funding – and they did this year for summer. So I don’t think it will be that great an imposition on them.”
With increased funding, Harris hopes to see the Water Valley Library be able to hire part-time staff to increase its hours. He adds, it currently only has one employee.
