Key infrastructure upgrade project gets off to soggy start

The 57th Avenue infrastructure project in Olds has slipped about a week behind in its construction time.

Town council heard an update on the progress of the project that began on June 1st during this week’s meeting.

The recent rainy weather slowed it down for a couple days, and then Mayor Dan Daley notes there were also unexpected problems securing the water line while working on it. Mayor Daley says “but talking with Director Pedro, he indicated at our council meeting that they should be able to pick up that time as long as the weather continues to cooperate and we are still shooting for that August 1st completion date.”

The Town’s Director of Infrastructure Adrian Pedro pointed out during the council meeting that the cut in the line was leaking for about a day in a half, so it was approximately 1,100 cubes (cubic meters) of water. He called it “quite significant” and they are “still working with the contractor on that, just to understand where those numbers are going to fall.”

The work is being completed on 57th Avenue between Highway 27 and Shannon Drive in order to address failing underground infrastructure and improve safety in the area.
