Winter returns with snow storm creating treacherous driving conditions, poor visibility

The QEII Highway was closed on Tuesday (February 17th) afternoon at Didsbury.

Mounties say all traffic is being re-routed off of it at Olds and Bowden due to very poor driving conditions.

According to Didsbury RCMP, there is a collision in the south bound lanes just south of Highway 582 and other vehicles are colliding with the initial crash. To this point, no injuries are being reported but the south bound lanes are not passable.

RCMP ask everyone to please avoid travel and plan alternate routes if necessary. The latest updates on local road conditions can be found by monitoring 511 Alberta.

Earlier in the day, Alberta RCMP issued a tow ban for the QEII Highway from Edmonton to just north of Red Deer because of the blowing and drifting snow.

Motorists have been asked to stay off of the roads in many areas of the province as a result of the snow storm.
