Volunteer times still available to help out with Henry’s annual Christmas dinner

The annual Christmas dinner at the Olds Royal Canadian Legion served over 460 people in 2024.

Originally started by the late Henry Sonnenberg in his bakery, the Legion and the Olds Lions Club have carried on the tradition and it is now in its 43rd year.

Linda Anderson, President of the Olds Legion, points out that more than 300 people sat down to dine-in last year and over 150 more utilized the take-out or delivery options. She says “I’d like to say that the dinner is open to the community. Everyone is welcome to come – especially those who are alone for Christmas, we would love you to come and have a meal and visit with some of your community members. We just really want to thank the community for their generosity otherwise this dinner wouldn’t take place, so just thank the community.”

Anderson adds, they are still looking for volunteers to help serve the people that come in for the dinner on Christmas Day with shifts available from 11-2, 2-4, and 3-5. If you are interested, contact Linda at 403-556-3896.

The annual Henry Sonnenberg memorial Christmas dinner at the Olds Legion will run from 11:30am until 3pm this year. Home delivery of Henry’s Christmas dinner is available by contacting Alan at 403-507-5204.
