The Mountain View Colts wrapped up a 4 game home stand this weekend at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
On Friday night, the Colts welcomed the Cochrane Generals in a rematch of the 2016 Heritage Junior Hockey League championship series, which saw Mountain View crowned champion for the first and only time in franchise history.
The game was a nail biter with only 2 goals scored through 60+ minutes of hockey, Lucas Billings 2nd of the year put the Colts ahead 1-0 in the 2nd period. Emmett Long got one back for Cochrane in the 3rd, and that was enough to send the game to a thrilling overtime period where no winner would be found.
Nate Smith would go on to score the only goal of the shootout and lead his Colts to a 2-1 home win.
On Saturday night the Colts welcomed their Northern Division rival, Airdrie Thunder, to the DMC.
Special teams played a big factor in the 1st, where Dayton Kulynych would snap home a breakaway opportunity to put the Thunder up 1-0. The Colts would answer back on a subsequent power play opportunity as Sawyer Loree levelled the game heading into the 2nd.
The Colts would find themselves down 4-2 at the 2nd intermission. Reed Toussaint scored his 2nd of the year but it was Airdrie who would score 3 in the middle frame to put themselves ahead.
Mountain View would get a late tally from Keenan Feenstra, who blasted home a no look feed from Sawyer Loree to pull the Colts within 1 with about 2 minutes to play, but the Thunder would then go on to pop home an empty netter and seal a 5-3 road win.
The win pulls Airdrie within 4 points of Mountain View for 3rd place in the Northern Division standings.
The Colts resume action on November 22nd when they travel to Ponoka, their next home game comes on November 29th when they host the Stampeders at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
