Witnesses to October 26 collision on QEII urged to contact Didsbury RCMP

Didsbury RCMP are continuing to collect information regarding a collision which caused “significant QEII delays.”

It happened at about 2:45am on Sunday, October 26th. According to police, two north bound vehicles collided on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway near secondary highway 582 in Mountain View County.

The Ford Bronco had four occupants and they were taken by EMS to be treated at a Calgary-area hospital for significant, non-life threatening injuries.

Didsbury RCMP point out that the Chevrolet Traverse had a lone male occupant who “fled the collision scene on foot.” With assistance from Olds RCMP and K Division Police Dog Services, he was eventually located and arrested for failing to stop after an accident. The 43-year-old man from Airdrie was examined by EMS and delivered to the Didsbury RCMP detachment as part of the investigation which remains ongoing and police say alcohol is believed to have been a factor. The RCMP’s Collision Reconstruction Analyst was also called in to check out the scene of the incident.

Witnesses, who have not already talked with investigators, can contact the Didsbury RCMP detachment at 403-335-3382, or call CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
