The Girls Power Weekend is going to kick it up a notch for the Crossfield Minor Soccer Association.
It is this Saturday, September 20th in Crossfield and it will be a full day event for girls who are looking to come together and support each other through soccer.
President Duncan Hawkins says they will have guest speakers and more. He says “so there is going to be a lot of workshops. There is going to be a lot of fun on the field and we also have guest speakers from the Calgary Wild – the women’s professional soccer team. Sarah Keilty-Dilling and Grace Stordy will be in attendance to provide a really good discussion to the girls that they can take away and help improve who they are as players, and more importantly as individuals.”
According to Hawkins, the Girls Power Weekend is in response to the growing concern that a lot of girls are leaving sports all together in rural Alberta. He says “this was a call to action that we agreed with, with Alberta Soccer. Crossfield Minor Soccer put together a white paper for rural Alberta to see what we can do to spark an event to help focus on the importance of girls in sports and us being part of the soccer community, this was our primary focus.”
Hawkins highlights the fact that there is no cost to attend the Girls Power Weekend event this Saturday in Crossfield. He says “we’ve got field events for under 5 years of age, where they can come and just have a kick. We’ve got workshops and field work for girls that are under the age of 9, all the way up to the ages of U-19. We will also have sessions for female coaches and for match officials.”
