Hailing from Saskatchewan, but right at home on the Olds Regional Exhibition grounds is Karli Cowie.
The Mankota, SK product fired up the fans with a sensational run of 17.20 seconds to grab day money for Friday, September 12th and start off this year’s Oldstoberfest Pro Rodeo the same way she finished it in 2024. Cowie won in Olds a year ago with a quick lap of 17.15 seconds.
Other leaders after the first performance include Orin Larsen from Inglis, Manitoba in bareback (81.5 points on C5’s Young Moon), Dalton Massey from Hermiston, Oregon in steer wrestling (4.0 seconds), Logan and Keely Bonnett from Ponoka in team roping (5.2 seconds), James Perrin from Maple Creek, Saskatchewan in saddle bronc (84.5 points) on C5’s Robins Mess, Jade Nelson from High River in breakaway roping (2.3 seconds), and Shane Smith from Wimborne in tie down roping (9.0 seconds).
Unfortunately, the bulls won the night on Friday. All three cowboys wound up being bucked off.
The second and final performance of the 2025 Oldstoberfest Pro Rodeo is set for 6pm on Saturday, September 13th on the ORE grounds. A country music concert with Wynn Williams will follow and then there will be more Bavarian themed good times at the Cow Palace in the Biergarten well into the night and early morning hours.
