Town of Olds sees a drop in overall crime activity

There’s some encouraging news when it comes to crime trends in Olds.

According to the RCMP’s 2024 Crime Severity Index, the community saw a 20 percent drop in overall crime severity last year. The decrease reflects fewer serious offences and growing success in local crime prevention efforts.

The drop was recently announced via a social media post.

RCMP credit the improvement to several factors, including a new crime reduction position at the Olds detachment, stronger collaboration with the Town, Municipal Enforcement and local landlords, as well as targeted action against theft, vandalism, and lower-level drug activity.

While the Crime Severity Index is just one indicator, the Town says it’s a positive sign that Olds continues to be a safe and welcoming place to live.

The Town says it will continue working closely with the RCMP as the community grows.

The Town would also like to remind residents that the first Coffee with a Cop is set for August 29th from 10 to 11 am at McDonald’s in Olds, and will run the last Thursday of each month going forward.
