Town of Olds extends secondary suite compliance incentive

The Town of Olds is giving homeowners more time to bring secondary suites up to code, extending its Secondary Suite Compliance Incentive until February 28th, 2026.

That means property owners with unregistered or non-compliant suites now have additional time to legalize them under simplified rules—in an effort to save residents both time and money.

After February 28th, enforcement of existing bylaws will begin, and non-compliant suites must either be brought up to code or removed from the rental market entirely.

James Crozier, Manager of Planning & Infrastructure for the Town of Olds, says via a news release that they have “made this process easier and more accessible because we want to work with property owners, not against them”.

Crozier adds that the extension allows landlords to act now, under simplified requirements.

Homeowners are encouraged to act now by applying for a development permit or ceasing to rent out non-compliant units.
