The Town of Olds is reminding pet owners to register their furry friends as the Town continues its efforts to reduce the number of lost and stray animals in the community.
Pet owners are asked to remember four key points when it comes to responsible pet ownership- licensing your pet, tagging, microchipping, and collaring, keeping dogs on a lead, and ensuring pets are up-to-date with shots.
“When an animal has ID, it can be quickly returned to its owner if found by a member of the public minimizing stress on the animal,” the Town shared on social media.
The Town of Olds requires licensing for all dogs and cats over three months of age, and must be renewed annually. The deadline for reviewing licences is February 28th of every year. For animals adopted after that date, licensing must be obtained immediately.
Those with existing animal licenses should have already received a renewal letter in early January; however, if you have not yet received yours, you are asked to contact the Town Office.
Licensing fees vary depending on your pet. According to the town, intact male and female dogs and cats are $35, while spayed females and neutered males are $25. Late payment fees are applied after February 18th, carrying a $15 penalty.
Animal Licence payments can be made through online banking, or in-person at the administration office. Application forms can be accessed online on the Town of Olds’ website.
