Town of Olds looks to stirrup some fun with $10K Oldstoberfest sponsorship

The Town of Olds, through Mountainview Power, has provided a $10,000 sponsorship to this year’s Oldstoberfest event.

Oldstoberfest and the Town have enjoyed a lengthy and fruitful relationship since the event’s inception more than half a decade ago. This most recent sponsorship announcement marks the sixth straight for the Town, and the third for Mountainview Power. Oldstoberfest Event Coordinator Gillian Grant says she is grateful to have another year of funding in the ongoing relationship with the town.

“We’ve just been really grateful for the support the Town of Olds has continuously given to Oldstoberfest from the very get go,” she says. “In order for us to make events work like Oldstoberfest, we rely heavily on donations and sponsorship to make things a go.”

Grant adds that the event, while not directly a non-profit itself, brings some significant benefits to the community every year.

“The Town of Olds obviously sees what we do for the community, within the community, and us doing our best to contribute to the community, it kind of goes both ways so we’re just very grateful they continue to be great partners with the event,” she says.

According to Grant, current projections indicate the event will bring in more than one million dollars in indirect impacts to the community, with a further $60K going directly into local not-for-profits who count on the event for funding every year.

“For a lot of these groups, it’s one of their biggest fundraisers of the year,” she says.

“I think the event has turned into the single largest event hosted in the Town of Olds each year, thousands of people visit town because of it,” Olds CAO Brent Williams confirms.

“It also gets the newly arrived college students engaged, and council has been very clear in their support the generation of economic activity that it does bring, and Mountainview Power is the perfect vehicle for that,” he adds.

Officials have yet to release the official artist lineup for this year’s festival; however, Grant suggests that information will become available “very very soon.”
