Long-time CESD administrators recognized as Roy E. Cope award winners

The annual recipients of the Roy E. Cope award have been announced by Chinook’s Edge School Division.

As Board Chair Holly Bilton explains, Roy E. Cope was one of the division’s past Superintendents who was incredibly well respected. She says this award is for someone in our division who has really shown that they have a passion for the well being and the best interests of students and they look to do things everyday that will help kids in our division succeed.

Bilton points out that long-time Superintendent Kurt Sacher is retiring at the end of this month and he is one of two recipients of the award. She says “the Board looked at the many years of service and not many Boards are privileged to have a Superintendent be with them so long. Kurt has been a staple in this division for the better part of 15 years, actually 16 I think, and has just done his very best to build relationships, build culture and make sure that students come first – which is our motto.”

Ted Harvey, who recently retired after serving as the division’s Director of Technology, is the other award recipient for this year. Being the director of technology for over 20 years, things have shifted a lot so Bilton notes that having Ted Harvey be a part of the division in the technology piece that he does, has been exceptional. She says “I mean the one that I would point out right now is the security breach that so many of us have heard about PowerSchool that happened recently. Ted was able to make sure the way our set up is done that, that didn’t happen to us. So the protection that he gives our students and the data of our students is second to none and we just can’t appreciate him more.”

The Roy E. Cope award presentations will be made to Sacher and Harvey by Chinook’s Edge School Division in the fall.
