Horses in distress located by Evansburg RCMP, Parkland County resident faces charges

A police search this week of a rural property in Parkland County has resulted in the discovery of several horses that were “deemed to be in distress.”

After the search warrant in regards to stolen property and animals in distress was executed by Evansburg RCMP, the horses were moved to a caretaking facility to be examined and treated.

The investigation has led to the arrest of a 54 year old female resident of Parkland County. According to police she was “already subject to a court ordered lifetime ban from owning, caring for or being in possession of, any equine animals.”

Charges include breaching a court order, possession of stolen property under $5,000, breaching a prohibition order, and two counts of causing unnecessary pain and suffering or injury to an animal.

Evansburg RCMP received help from the Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Parkland County Enforcement Services to seize the horses. Evansburg is located about 90 kilometers west of Edmonton.

Sergeant Jeff Sutherland, the Detachment Commander of the Evansburg RCMP, thanked those “who are willing to come forward and provide information that helps protect vulnerable animals.”
