The Mountain View Colts annual awards banquet wrapped up their 2024-2025 season on Saturday night.
The hardware was handed out in the multipurpose room at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
This year’s Most Valuable Player for the Colts is 20-year-old goaltender Nicholas Smith from Calgary. He says “Ron (Head Coach Ron Doig) brought me in and I was so thankful to be brought into a team this year. The guys made me feel so welcome right off the bat. I couldn’t be even more thankful than that.”
Smith was second in the Heritage Junior Hockey League with 5 shut outs this season. Overall for Mountain View, he was 14-9-1 with a 2.82 goals against average and an .899 save percentage this season. He says “Ron gave me one favour and that was to get him to the playoffs. From there on, never looked back. They say shut outs are a personal award. In my eyes, it’s a team award.”
Among the other award winners for the Colts are Seth Siederhof as the Ivan Olsen Most Improved Player, Trey Mueller is the Rookie of the Year, Ryder Hammer is the top scorer, and the Frank Murphy Top Defenceman is Zach Wheatley.
Kai Biggin received the Coach’s Choice honours, the Warren Persinger Heart and Hustle award went to both Tanner Austin and Aiden Saunders. Corbin Rae picked up the Michael Brander Leadership award.
