Mile-stone curling anniversary: 40th annual Olds Farmerettes’ Bonspiel

The Olds Farmers and Farmerettes Bonspiel is ready to rock this week.

Chair Curt Jorsvik highlights the fact that this is the 43rd edition for the Farmers and a special milestone for the Farmerettes as it is their 40th annual bonspiel. He says “it’s hanging in there very well. I mean, at one time the numbers were even higher and it has come back pretty good the last couple years here. It’s a really great opportunity to get out and I invite lots of people to just come down if you are not curling and see the event and meet some neighbours, I’m sure.”

He adds, they have 32 teams for the Farmers side and 12 for the Farmerettes side. Jorsvik says “what we do is put together a team of three farmers and then randomly get put with businesses that put up one curler. Luck of the draw who you get. So then curl that way through the week and it works really well. Get to meet lots of people that way.”

The first draw is Tuesday, February 11th at 10am at the Olds Curling Club. The annual Olds Farmers’ and Farmerettes Bonspiel concludes on Saturday, February 15th with the event finals and then banquet at the Olds Legion. Jorsvik says “yeah really appreciative. Lot of businesses stepped up again which always helps. Quite a few were able to send a curler along as well which I find is really good value for them I think to make contact with clients and get out in the community.”
