A missing 55-year-old man has been located deceased in the Nordegg backcountry.

Mounties say that Rocky Mountain House RCMP were alerted about an overdue hiker on Monday (August 5th).

An exhaustive search of the area began on Tuesday (August 6th).

According to police, volunteers and a helicopter crew located the missing hiker deceased in Coral Creek on Thursday (August 8th). He was found approximately 12 kilometers from where his vehicle was located and RCMP note that the cause of his death does not appear to be suspicious.

Corporal Troy Savinkoff, Public Information Officer with Alberta RCMP Media Group, says the man was living with family and had previously relocated out here from Ontario.

RCMP express their thanks to the volunteers of Alberta Search and Rescue for their time and professionalism during this search. RCMP were supported in the search by Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue (SAR) and Kananaskis Emergency Services. Corporal Savinkoff says it was an extremely large search effort with six different units donating many hours of their time.

Alberta RCMP pass along heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
