No Stone Left Alone ceremony on November 6 at Olds Cemetery

As Remembrance Day approaches, we reflect on the sacrifices of all who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces to protect peace and freedom.

Diane Powney, Citizenship Officer with IODE Baron Tweedsmuir Olds, notes that their annual No Stone Left Alone ceremony is coming up on Friday, November 6th at 1pm at the Olds Cemetery. Powney says “this is our 11th year. We have four schools that are going to be attending – OES, Deer Meadow, the High School, and Holy Trinity. So we are quite excited to have them come and be part of our ceremony. It is such a beautiful sight to see these students go around and place all of these flags to the veterans who well deserve the recognition for what they have done for us in our country.”

According to EOHS Vice Principal Jana Kemmere, their 31 students who are participating are mostly in grade 9 and grade 10 student Chelsea Kitzul will be playing ‘The Last Post’. Kemmere says “we are honoured to take our students and we hope that by participating in the ceremony and reading the fallen soldiers named out loud, that we would have a new and authentic connection with the people who have served and also for the current members that are serving as well.”

Powney adds, that IODE has been in Olds for 90 years and the proceeds from their thrift shop go back to help out in the community.
