Top competitors ready to bust of the chutes at CFR 52

More than a dozen local competitors head up the trail to Edmonton this week for the 2026 Canadian Finals Rodeo.

It starts on Wednesday, October 7th at 6:30pm with the first of five performances at Rogers Place.

Zeke Thurston from Big Valley, Ben Andersen from Eckville and Kyle Wanchuk from Stettler are among the saddle bronc riders who will be there.

Bull rider Glen Erickson from Sundre, team roper Trey Gallais from Mountain View County are going as well along with three steer wrestlers from Red Deer County – Bret Marshall, Quentin Branden, and Landon Beardsworth plus Innisfail’s Ryan Shuckburgh.

And this region is well represented in tie down roping as well with Carstairs products Kyle Lucas and Denton Dunham, Beau Cooper from Stettler, Big Valley’s Coy Skocdopole, and Shane and Jason Smith from Wimborne.

The major event champions for this year will be crowned at CFR 52 on Saturday, October 10th. Tickets are available online at cfr.ca.
