RCMP Livestock Unit Charges Four Calgary Residents Following Illegal Slaughtering Investigation

An RCMP investigation into illegal livestock slaughtering has led to charges for four Calgary residents.

Mounties say the investigation began in November of 2023. It was initiated to look into unlawful livestock dealing and the illegal slaughter of sheep, goats, and beef in southern Alberta.

According to police, it has been confirmed that sheep and goats were purchased at market, transported to rural properties in Mountain View County, Rocky View County, and Wheatland County, where the animals were unlawfully slaughtered.

The meat reached stores and residences in the City of Calgary, while investigators apparently seized beef that had also been slaughtered before it made its way into the city.

48 year old Raed Alnajar, 41 year old Tareq Alhamawi, 35 year old Waeel Alhamawi, and 35 year old Amer Alhamawi face charges and they are all slated to appear in court in Strathmore on June 24th.

In a press release, the RCMP Livestock Unit reminds the public that in order to buy and sell livestock or livestock products within 30 days, a dealer’s license is required. The RCMP, the Alberta Sheriffs Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods, Alberta Agriculture, the Canadian Food Inspction Agency, and Alberta Health Services collaborated during the investigation.
