Wildfire RWFO36 is located northwest of Sundre but as of Thursday evening it was not yet within the Mountain View County boundaries.
Mountain View County is relaying messaging from Alberta Wildfire and Alberta Forestry regarding it. Classified as out of control, the wildfire near Highway 40 – the Forestry Trunk Road – and Highway 584 has jumped up from about 30 hectares in size earlier in the day to approximately 200 hectares now.
MV County reports that at this time, there is no risk to its residents or communities. However, Clearwater County has requested that “campers, backcountry users and traffic in the area immediately leave and for others to avoid the area. No mandatory evacuation is in place.”

Mountain View County continues to monitor wildfire RWF036 located northwest of Sundre near Highway 40 (Forestry Trunk Road) and Highway 584.
According to Alberta Wildfire, the fire has expanded to approximately 200 hectares and remains classified as out of control. Challenging conditions, including strong winds and dry vegetation, continue to contribute to wildfire activity in the area. Firefighters, supported by air tankers, helicopters, and heavy equipment, remain actively engaged in suppression efforts.
Clearwater County is requesting that campers, backcountry users and traffic in the area immediately leave and for others to avoid the area. No mandatory evacuation is in place.
At this time, Alberta Forestry, the responding agency on this wildfire, has highlighted that there is no risk to Mountain View County residents or communities. Mountain View County continues to work closely with provincial agencies and neighbouring municipalities and will provide updates should conditions change or the wildfire move closer to County boundaries. Mountain View County does have appropriate evacuation plans in place in the event that it becomes necessary to action those plans.
Residents travelling in the area are reminded that Highway 40 closures remain in effect due to smoke and wildfire activity. Please monitor official sources for current road closures and wildfire information.
