A pair of high scoring forwards from the Olds Grizzlys have been named to the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s South Division All-Rookie Team.
Ryder Riedel (2007) from Didsbury and Jordin St.Louis (2009) from Airdrie received that recognition last week.
St. Louis was second in rookie scoring in the AJHL with 43 points in 50 games during the 2025-2026 season and he was second among rookies in goals with 19. Grizzlys Head Coach Tyson Soloski says “yeah, Jordin has had a great year. He is very dynamic offensively. He just has the ability to kind of break open a game and for us, we’ve struggled to score at times this year and he is one player that seems to always find a way to put up offense. Whether we are scoring one or four or five, he just always seems to be around it and around the net, around the offensive zone and he has created a lot of offense for us while being steady on the back side. He’s had a great year and he is a great player.”
Riedel was third in the league among freshmen with 41 points in 39 games and his points per game of 1.05 was second for the league’s qualified first year players. Soloski says “Ryder can just make an impact in the game in so many different ways. He is very good at both ends of the rink and, obviously, it is nice when you see the production coming from him but he just does so many things well. He is very smart and has a tremendous hockey IQ and his compete level is through the roof. It allows him to produce offense in multiple ways and I think that is why you see him having so much success is he can score and he can create offense in different ways – whether it is off the rush or in zone or on the power play or you’ve seen it shorthanded as well. He just has a lot of tools in his tool kit and he has done a great job for us this year.”
St. Louis received a pair of awards during the Grizzlys annual banquet last month. He was both the team’s Most Valuable Player and its top scorer. Riedel was the Rookie of the Year for the Grizzlys.
Other team awards for Olds went to Brody Martin (2007) from Prince George as the Top Defenceman, and Brenden Thomas from Calgary as the Most Sportsmanlike Player. Hubert Larose (2007) from Levis, Quebec received the Coach’s Award. Rookies won five of the six team awards that were handed out by the Grizzlys this season.
