The 4th annual Battle of the Badges charity hockey game has dished out a big assist to the Innisfail Food Bank.
Staff Sergeant Ian Ihme points out that there were more people at the charity game and more donations than ever before with just over $9,000 in cash donations along with more than 1,000 pounds of food items. Ihme says “Christmas is always tough and it is tough on the food bank too because there is a lot of need. The whole idea for this started four years ago exactly for this reason, right? Just to help them restock some of their shelves and, you know, set them up for success for the next year.”
December’s charity checkstop was the 29th annual edition of the event and it was also very successful with a record total of over $17,000 ($17,412.65) collected in cash and cheques. Ihme discusses events like the Battle of the Badges and the charity checkstop. He says “it’s great and, you know, the guys here loving giving back to the community. It’s just part of what we do. It is the local community that supports us that allows us to do all of this stuff, which is great.” This year’s Innisfail RCMP Charity Checktop was supporting the Innisfail Food Bank, the Innisfail Christmas Bureau, and the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre.
Hot goaltending and plenty of sparks on offense helped the Innisfail Fire Department defeat the Innisfail RCMP 12-3 in last Friday’s charity game.
