Travel not recommended on all Alberta roads due to whiteout conditions

Alberta RCMP are now cautioning against travel today because of heavy snowfall that is causing whiteout conditions in areas.

Blustery weather on Wednesday, December 17th is affecting parts of southern, central, and northern Alberta.

Mounties anticipate closures in several parts of the province. As of 1pm, closures on the southern parts of the QEII Highway are “preventing access northbound at Calgary and southbound at Red Deer, while emergency responders are assisting stranded motorists due to multiple collisions in the Didsbury and Airdrie areas.”

Motorists can find the most up to date information by checking 511.

Meanwhile, the Town of Olds has activated the Community Connection Centre located at 4911 51st Avenue and it is open for those who might be stranded.

The Town of Olds Fire Department and Olds RCMP are letting everyone know that the QEII Highway southbound is closed from the Olds overpass all the way to Crossfield and that visibility is significantly reduced and strong winds are creating hazardous driving conditions.

The Town of Olds Municipal Enforcement team is on site at the intersection of Highway 2A an Highway 27 to help manage the increased traffic within the Town.
