Alberta’s wildfire season officially ended on October 31st, but the province says dry conditions mean wildfire risk remains in several areas.
A provincial update says new strategies and mitigation work helped reduce wildfire impacts this year, even with more than 1,200 wildfire starts—about the same as last year.
More than 85 per cent of those fires were kept under two hectares.
The province also piloted hoist-equipped helicopters, upgraded its fire weather network, and expanded Wildland Urban Interface crews to better protect communities.
Budget 2025 provides $160 million for wildfire personnel, equipment and training, and nearly 1,300 staff supported wildfire response across Alberta this season.
