Town of Olds council amends land use bylaw

The Town of Olds Council met on November 24th, where a public hearing was held for Bylaw 2025-18, amending the Land Use Bylaw.

The updates clarify height rules for infill development in low-density areas, limit oversized fence gates where no driveway exists, and add a definition for low-impact stormwater design. Council passed the bylaw with a second and third reading.

Council also authorized applying to the Alberta Community Partnership grant for Phase Two of the Central Alberta First Economic Strategy, with Olds confirmed as the managing partner. The grant offers up to $200,000 with no municipal match required.

Administration then presented the 2026 base operating and utilities budget, projecting a $355,000 deficit before new project requests. Utility rates are expected to see small increases next year, administration noted that future operating projects and capital proposals will shape final tax and utility rate decisions.

The next scheduled council meeting is December 8th.

Highlights of any council meeting can be found on the Town of Olds website.
