A weeklong crime spree that began at a gas station in the hamlet of Caroline, has resulted in arrests and charges against two suspects.
The initial complaint of an armed robbery came in to Rocky Mountain House RCMP on October 19th and – after collaborative efforts from numerous support units – the arrests followed near the Esso in Bashaw.
Mounties add, the suspect vehicle was tracked by an RCMP helicopter to the Beaumont area and driving speeds of over 200 kilometers an hour were recorded on Highway 21. According to RCMP, it also “passed an ambulance at one point, as well as a police vehicle with emergency equipment activated.”
A 29-year-old man has been remanded into custody and charged for his involvement in the Caroline armed robbery and faces eight total charges including one for choking a police officer. He is slated to appear in court in Red Deer this week. Police note that the officer involved was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
A 31-year-old man was also remanded into custody. He faces 77 total charges including one for attempting to steal an occupied vehicle in Bashaw at gun point. As well, he is currently bound by four separate firearm prohibition orders but police say he has been in possession of multiple guns. He has a court date upcoming in Red Deer on Monday, November 10th.
