Over 50 collisions (54) during the Labour Day long weekend in Alberta caused injuries and as a result four people are dead.
Sergeant Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic notes that fatal motor vehicle collisions are often avoidable and we are reminded of this every long weekend when lives are lost due to factors such as drugs, alcohol, and speeding.
Between August 29th and September 1st, RCMP handed out more than 1,600 tickets (1,661) on the province’s roadways with almost 800 (789) of those issued for speeding.
99 impaired drivers were removed from roads in Alberta RCMP jurisdictions during that same time period, while 70 drivers received Immediate Roadside Sanction FAILs and 19 others were issued Immediate Roadside Sanction WARNs.
Other infraction totals over the Labour Day weekend included 34 distracted driving tickets and 19 for not wearing a seatbelt.
