Collision involving stolen vehicle claims life of 46-year-old Red Deer woman

A Red Deer County man has been charged following a fatal collision this week in Red Deer.

The charges the 33-year-old man faces include impaired driving causing death, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, and possession of stolen property over $5,000. He was remanded into custody with a court date in Red Deer set for next week (August 20th).

Mounties were called to the scene of a serious collision which involved a stolen vehicle on Tuesday afternoon near 40th Avenue and 22nd Street. Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene by stealing a vehicle from a bystander who had stopped to try and assist in the collision. The collision claimed the life of a 46-year-old Red Deer woman and RCMP are passing along condolences to her family and friends.
