Canfax launching monthly publication for cow/calf producers

ABP is encouraging cow/calf producers to reinvest in their operation during this time in the cattle cycle while they are seeing record high feeder prices.

Brenna Grant, Canfax Executive Director, points out that this will set them up to be more competitive for the next portion of the cattle cycle. She says “right now when supplies are tightening, we see these really strong prices but we always know that things do turn in the cattle cycle and, you know, five years down the road, prices will be at a different level and you want to be prepared for that.”

Grant notes they have seen electronic sale volumes increase significantly in May and June. She says “we are seeing large weekly volumes that would be reminiscent of the fall run. A lot of these are forward delivery sales. So, this gives us sort of a foretaste of what to expect in the fall run and we are seeing premiums over the current cash markets.”

Canfax is launching a monthly MarketSense publication this month. According to Grant, this is something that is targeted specifically at cow/calf producers and seasonal decisions that they are going to be making on their operation.
