On the heels of setting a track record on Thursday, Chanse Vigen turned in another fast time of the night on Friday at the Ponoka Stampede.
The 41-year-old from Calgary led the way on Night 2 of the World Professional Chuckwagon Association races in Ponoka with a 1:14.18 in his McWilliam Automotive & CBI Solar outfit. While that time was a far cry from Thursday’s track record run (1:11.75) for Vigen, it was still over a second better than the second place time turned in by Jamie Laboucane in his Wild Rows Pump & Compression Ltd. wagon (1:15.36).
Mitch Sutherland from Grande Prairie in his Morskate Manufacturing wagon (1:16.20), Kurt Bensmiller from Dewberry in his Versatile Energy Services Ltd. outfit (1:16.25) wound up in third and fourth respectively on Friday.
The top four in the aggregate heading into Night 3 on Saturday are Vigen (2:25.93), Laboucane (2:29.94), Bensmiller (2:30.43), and D.J. King from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan in his Debs Cabs outfit (2:31.07). Vigen has opened up a lead of more than four seconds over the next closest competitor in the aggregate standings.
Night 3 is set to begin with the pre-show at 7:45 p.m. and the races at 8 o’clock and it can all be heard on 96.5 The Ranch. The Ranch is the radio broadcast home of the 2025 WPCA Pro Tour.
