Alberta RCMP are setting the tone for a safe start to the school year by passing along tips for both drivers and students.
Police ask students to avoid jaywalking and instead always cross the road at an intersection, cross walk, or with a crossing guard. Students are also reminded to avoid distractions and focus on walking by putting away electronic devices, cell phones, and ear buds to they can hear traffic approaching.
Constable Mitch Price with the Olds RCMP Detachment says last year they made the transition from school zones to playground zones in Olds, so the hours for those are 7am until 9pm – even if the kids aren’t in school – and the speed limit in them is 30 kilometers an hour.
With back-to-school here, motorists are encouraged to give themselves extra time to reach their destination because traffic may be more congested at this busy time of year.
