Wildfire danger in Rocky Mountain House Forest Area currently listed as high

Alberta Forestry and Parks is reminding everyone who is heading into the great outdoors for the Labour Day weekend to keep fire safety in mind.

Allanah McLean, Information Coordinator with the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, says everyone plays a role in preventing wildfires.

She notes there is going to be a lot of potential for fires to start – especially with the hot, dry conditions in the province and human activity on the landscape. She says “if you are having a campfire keep it small, manageable, in a safe location. When you are done; soak it, stir it soak it again, so it is cool to the touch. If you are operating off-highway vehicles, be sure to regularly check the machine for debris and build up, and have some gardening equipment like a shovel or a bucket with you.”

If you are out in the forest this long weekend, McLean encourages anyone who sees smoke to report it by calling 310-FIRE. For up to date information go online to albertafirebans.ca.
